Posted 07/16/13 by admin and filed under:

Canon PowerShot D20 Waterproof Digital Camera ReviewsThe Canon Powershot D20 model was released just last year, in the month of February. This particular model is an upgraded version of the PowerShot D10, which has been around three years before the release of the Canon Powershot D20. This camera has been improved and designed for various outdoor activities and is known to be a freeze, water and dust proof camera that comes in three different colors—white, blue and yellow. Even with all this, the camera has a price tag of only $279.

The features of the Canon Powershot D20 include being waterproof to a depth of 10m, being able to function in cold temperatures up to 10 degrees Celcius, as well as being shockproof from a height of 1.5m. On top of all this, it's also dustproof, which makes it perfect for extreme adventures. The camera has a 12.1 megapixel sensor, which provides great shots even in low lighting, eliminating the need for a flash. The Canon Powershot D20 can be zoomed in 5 times while still taking high quality shots.

The Canon Powershot D20 also has GPS settings that make it easier to tag your location and help you keep track of where each of your pictures were taken. The camera has a Smart Auto that gives the user 32 different settings and its underwater functions include automatic focus for super clear shots! The Canon Powershot D20 also has a high definition video recorder with full 1080p quality. This model allows five times zooming and can be connected to a HDMI or HDTV for viewing of your photos and videos. The Canon Powershot D20 specializes in underwater photography.

Canon PowerShot D20 Waterproof Digital Camera Reviews2The Canon Powershot D20 has a unique exterior cover and shape. It's made of rubber which provides a better grip for photographers. The buttons are large and knobby, making it easier for people with gloves to man these buttons when needed. The Canon Powershot D20 is programmed to allow you to view and check back on photos while the camera is switched off. One part of the camera that's tricky to open is the battery latch. You'll be able to figure it out, but it has an advantage when underwater since it would be hard to unintentionally open the battery cover and flood the camera.

The Canon Powershot D20 is a three inch camera and it's good to use for those who are adventurous. The camera has a great LCD screen that is clear and bright for viewing. The battery lasts long enough to take almost 280 shots, but sometimes it can take as many as 350.

The Canon Powershot D20 is a great camera to use, and compared to all the other cameras in the market, the Canon Powershot D20 offers great features along with image quality. The camera isn't perfect and there may be some features lacking in innovation but if you've tried the D10 and were impressed with it, then you'll be even happier to have the Canon Powershot D20.

Pentax Optio WG-3 GPS purple 16 MP Waterproof Digital Camera Review

Posted 05/22/13 by admin and filed under:

Pentax Optio WG-3 GPS purple 16 MP Waterproof Digital Camera ReviewPentax is a company who specializes in producing high quality digital cameras.  They recently released a new waterproof Pentax Optio WG-3 GPS camera.  This durable and tough camera is a perfect accompaniment to take with you on an outdoor excursion to snap great looking pictures.

It's always best to treat all your digital equipment with care, but life does happen.  The WG-3 can take bumps and bruises like a champ and can absorb falls as much as 6 feet.  Likewise it is waterproof for depths of up to 45 feet.   You can use the fact its waterproof to your advantage and clean it off in the sink when it gets a little dusty.

Taking excellent photos with the Pentax Optio WG-3 GPS is not a problem because the resolution is 16 megapixels.  Getting in closer is not a problem because it has digital 2x zoom and has wide aperture which closes at around 4.9.  This means even when lighting isn't the best the picture will still come out excellent.  Instead of the traditional single flash on the topside, the Pentax uses 6 lights which go around the lens.

The shape and look is different than other digital cameras.   When some people first look at this camera for the first second they believe it's a small radio.  Because of the design it is much easier to hold onto than traditional cameras.  The LCD screen is large at 3 inches.  If you desire to use a tripod it can be attached to the bottom of this camera.  There are 4 colors you can buy but have different features.  If you don't want the GPS geotagging you can go with an orange or black model.  If you do want GPS then you should go with purple or green.    The purple and green models geotags photos via GPS so you will know the exact location the photograph was taken and the direction you are facing because of the onboard compass.

Inside the box of the Pentax Optio WG-3 GPS is a carabineer keychain, USB cable to connect the camera to your computer or TV, battery charger, charging cord and lithium battery.  On a full charge this camera can easily take 200 photographs.  Also it has an internal memory of 70MB if needed.  But you should definitely pick up a SD card which has a lot more space to save your video clips and photographs.  Nowadays SD cards are extremely inexpensive.

Pentax has a support website but is hard to maneuver through when you first start out.  Despite the turbulence, once you are in it is pretty easy to find what you need.  One complaint many consumers have made is there is no FAQ section.  This would help both consumers and Pentax who wouldn't have to answer as many common questions.  But if you do have a question they will help you out either through the phone or email.

The Pentax Optio WG-3 GPS is a great and many objective reviewers have called it the best waterproof camera on the market today.    It's tough and sturdy while taking great pictures in the water.  Above land the picture quality compares favorably with other better known brands its class of waterproof cameras.  This a great tool which you can add to your backpack for a hike in the wood, river rafting trip or even a weekend excursion to the local shopping mall.

Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-TX20 Waterproof Camera Reviews

Posted 05/17/13 by admin and filed under:

Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-TX20If you've been searching for the best waterproof camera, the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-TX20 is definitely one to take a look at! The quality of the photos produced by the DSC-TX20 is above and beyond what most other competing cameras on the market are able to deliver. Not only this, but it's very durable and has hundreds of settings that you're able to tweak until you get the result you're looking for.

This camera shoots in 16-megapixels and is able to clearly capture moments in and out of water. This CyberShot was made to work in both salt and fresh water and has excellent light detection thanks to the Exmore R CMOS sensor, so it's even able to take vivid photos in a party or restaurant with low light. Without using the sensor, the camera isn't the best in low light situations, but once you enable it, it makes a world of a difference!

As mentioned previously, there are hundreds of settings and options that come built-in, so you can do anything from taking panoramic photos, to continuous shot mode, to anti-blur and motion detecting. On top of all this, you also have the option of shooting video in full 1280 x 720 HD quality! If you're in need of magnification, the DSC-TX20 also offers a 4x optical zoom and a 16x digital zoom if you really need to get in close. Please keep in mind that as with any camera, the digital zoom tends to be rather slow and reduces the image quality, but that's to be expected.

Sony stands firm behind this product and even claims that it's, "practically everything proof". While that's a big claim to make, I must say that it might just be true! This camera is able to withstand anything from shock, water, humidity, and even snowstorms in the cold! The advertised operating temperature is anywhere from 14 degrees up to 104 degrees, so whether you take it skiing or on a dune buggy ride in the desert, it should be able to withstand just about anything you can. The best part about it is that if it gets dirty, all you have to do is wash it off with water and you're all ready to take more pictures or video!

One of the biggest requests from Sony's customers was to have various color options, so Sony answered and provided just that. This particular model is available in 5 colors which are black, silver, pink, green, and blue. On the back of it, there's a 3" LCD screen that's touch sensitive. This being said, you should keep in mind that there are some customers with bigger fingers who have claimed that they've experienced issues trying to select small icons at times. Also, a screen protector is recommended, especially since you're probably going to take this camera into some harsh environments. It would be wise to invest in one just to make sure you don't scratch it up while it's in your bag or pocket.

The DSC-TX20 actually weighs in at only 4.2 ounces and is less than 4 inches wide. This actually makes it one of the smallest and lightest waterproof cameras on the market today! The design is both slim and sporty and the fact that it's able to withstand up to 16 feet of water only adds more awesomeness to this camera! When using any camera that claims to be waterproof, keep in mind that none of them are completely waterproof and it would be wise to enclose it inside a waterproof case when you plan on submerging it in water.

Once you purchase the camera, there are multiple extras included in the box that you'll want to look out for. You'll find a rechargeable battery, a USB cable, a wrist strap, a stylus to be used with the touchscreen, the manual and installation CD, and lastly a charging cable. You should also keep in mind that there's a 1 year warranty which covers parts and labor. Depending on where you purchase your device, there may be extended warranty plans available, so look out for that. If for some reason you need to contact customer support, there is information inside the box about how to reach them via email, phone, or live chat. There's also a help and FAQ section on their website for those questions which may be more simple in nature.

Overall, for a camera that shoots in 16 megapixel resolution, is able to go up to 16 feet underwater, and has excellent support for the product, the Sony CyberShot DSC-TX20 is definitely one of the best waterproof cameras on the market today! The only complaint is that it's slow to load at times, but if you can handle that, then this is the camera for you!

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS4 Waterproof Camera Review

Posted 05/11/13 by admin and filed under:

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS4 Waterproof Camera ReviewWaterproof cameras are all the rage these days and it can often be hard to sort through all the noise and find the best waterproof camera for your needs. That's why this article is here, it's going to break down the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS4 and leave the choice up to you of whether or not it's able to fulfill your photography needs.

Firstly, let's start by going over the stats and features of the camera and then we'll get into how it performs. Out of the box, the camera has a resolution of 12.1-megapixels and offers a 4.6x optical zoom. Built-in, there's also an option for GPS geotagging as well as the ability to upload both photos and videos directly from the camera's interface. The camera has a 28mm lens on it, so it's significantly wider than the 35mm lenses that typically come installed on most other cameras. Lastly, the camera is waterproof, so you can take photos both above water and up to 40 feet below water without having to worry about the device being damaged or not functioning properly.

If you've been searching around for other waterproof cameras, I'm sure you've discovered that most other cameras on the market today aren't able to go as deep underwater as the DMC-TS4. The camera being able to withstand up to 40 feet of water enables you to now take it scuba-diving without having to worry about going too deep. This allows you to capture those creatures which reside in the deeper water and there aren't many other cameras which would allow you to do so.

As with any camera, there are many other settings and options that are available, such as the ability to adjust the shutter speed which is also known as Starry Sky Mode. When this mode is enabled, the shutter speed is slowed down to 60 seconds and that allows you to take vivid pictures of the starry sky or even of a lightning storm which you normally wouldn't be able to capture. This being said, for those action shots that you may come across, there's the option to speed up the shutter speed to 1/1300 of a second. With this enabled, you don't have to worry about motion blurring your photograph, so you can take pictures of sports activities or pets.

With these over-the-top settings being mentioned, of course there's also the basic options which are included, such as: photo-timer, image stabilization, red-eye reducer, white balance settings, continuous shooting, and various color effects that can be applied right from the camera.

Some of the more extreme abilities of the camera would be that it can withstand a drop from nearly 7 feet without worry of damage. On top of this, it's also water and dust proof and can function flawlessly in temperatures as low as 14 degrees! As mentioned previously, the GPS tagging option lets you mark exactly where the photos were taken so that you can look back and immediately know without having to try and figure it out.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS4 Waterproof Camera Review

If you couldn't already tell, this camera was made for outdoors-people and there's also a built-in compass, altimeter, depth indicator, and barometric sensor which can all help you with orientation while you're photographing outdoors.

Panasonic has created this model in silver, red, orange, and blue, so you aren't stuck with a plain black as with most other cameras. There's also a 2.7" LCD display in the rear of the camera which shows you what you're viewing so that you can line up the perfect shot! The camera also comes with 20mb of built-in memory encase your card breaks or you forget it. This being said, 20mb can only hold about 2 dozen photos, so it's not too helpful, but can be useful during an emergency situation. It's advertised to be able to take up to 310 photos on one charge, which is higher than most cameras which only advertise about 225 per charge.

Overall, the rugged design and long battery life makes this Panasonic camera a favorite among those who love spending time outdoors. As you may have guessed, the airtight seal keeps out anything you might accidentally drop the camera into, so no matter where you go or what type of environment you're in, the camera should function properly and provide you with the vivid images you're looking for!

Olympus TG-320 14 MP Tough Series Waterproof Camera Review

Posted 05/08/13 by admin and filed under:

Olympus TG-320 14 MP Tough Series Waterproof Camera ReviewOlympus is a well know and highly regarded brand.  They produce many different types of electronic devices from audio equipment, digital cameras plus microscopes and other scientific instruments.  Consumers love their lenses and digital cameras particularly because of their high quality and visual appeal.  Their latest model on the block, the Olympus Stylus Tough TG320 does not disappoint.  Some experienced photographers have called this model the best waterproof camera that they have ever owned because of its versatility.   While others say the pictures on land are higher quality than the ones taken in the water.

The resolution of this water resistant digital camera is 14MP, can zoom up to 3.6x, make HD high quality movies and has a dual stabilizer.  The image quality is great no matter if you are on land or underwater, but a few reviewers have complained that the image quality is better with other digital cameras specifically because the color and sharpness.

Perhaps the best feature of this camera is its toughness and durability.  It's built to take bumps along the way and keep on functioning perfectly in the Mojave Desert in the middle of summer or Iowa in the middle of winter.   This Olympus digital camera can stand up to over 200 pounds of pressure; withstand freezing conditions up to 15 degrees and a drop of 5 feet.  It's waterproof up to 10 feet.  The battery is extremely secure because unlike some other cameras, the battery housing takes effort to open up which is a protective measure so it won't get ruined by water, sand or dirt.

One of the tradeoffs with other competition waterproof cameras is that they compromise functionality so it can take pictures underwater.  Fortunately this is not the case with the Olympus Stylus Tough TG320.  Although this is not the easiest camera to use these premium features it does have art filters and can capture 3D images.

Many people do not like the instruction manual because it's very difficult to navigate and go through.  Fortunately Olympus does have great online resources which are extremely simple to use and follow along.  If you don't have regular use of the internet this can be a problem.  But for people who do have access the Olympus site is extremely interactive which includes user guides, FAQ and contact information which comprises of a telephone number and email address for those who have a specific question.

Just like other Olympus cameras, the design of the Stylus Tough TG320 is streamlined and contemporary.  Right next to the 2.7 inch LCD screen the settings can be changed with buttons which do not come out that far. You don't have to fret about the battery dying on you because fully charged it can take around 200 pictures.

The Olympus Stylus Tough TG320 is a sturdy waterproof camera which is more flexible than similar cameras in its price range.  It can't be compared to more professional cameras, but you can still shoot some great looking photographs.  This is the type of camera that you can take with you just about anywhere and it's built to last.

Kodak Sport C123 12 MP Waterproof Digital Camera Review

Posted 05/05/13 by admin and filed under:

Kodak Easyshare Sport C123While the EasyShare Sport by Kodak is not the leading waterproof digital camera available, it’s a worthy competitor for its price point.  The camera features a 12 megapixel resolution, the option of speedy photo sharing, and a full 1 year warranty.  When you put together the price point, durability, and style of this camera, we think it is the perfect choice for a child or teenager that is looking for a camera to capture underwater and vacation fun!  Being that it is waterproof it will also hold up in rain and if it’s subject to an unexpected spill.

When looking at some of our other underwater camera selections you will see that we recommend more than a 12mp.  However, with the use of the underwater white balance function, you can still enjoy photos that are detailed and sharp with this camera.

Per its name the EasyShare Sport gives you the ability to share your underwater vacation fun in only a few quick steps.  The camera allows you to quickly identify the photos that you want to upload to your computer to share on all of your social media sites like Facebook and Twitter.  You can also set up your EasyShare to auto upload to a Kodak Pulse digital picture frame.

EasyShare is available in three fun colors—red, blue, and yellow. Its shape and size make it the ideal camera for traveling. Not only is this camera waterproof, but it is dustproof.  It does have limits though, if you are submerged in water deeper than 10ft, water pressure may cause the camera to break.

Some of its other features include a 32mb internal memory, operates on AA batteries, comes with a wrist strap, USB cable, user guide and 1 year warranty.

One downfall we found is that since this camera does not run on the standard rechargeable digital camera batteries, you have to make sure you travel with extra AA’s.  You can find rechargeable AA’s, but make sure you slide a spare set in when you are out and about so that you don’t miss your perfect shot.

The 1 year warranty we mentioned covers breaks or malfunctions that occur above 10ft of submersion.  To exercise your warranty you have to send your camera back to Kodak for inspection. Your camera will either be repaired or replaced.

To learn more about the Kodak EasyShare Sport you can go to Kodak’s official website and read through the user manual, most common FAQ’s, and to read customer reviews.  Feel free to Kodak via live chat, phone, or email.

This is the perfect first time or vacation camera for your child or teenager.  Its durability, fun colors, and quick share photo options make it perfect for this age group.  The price point also makes it a reasonable investment for this 12mp waterproof camera.

Canon PowerShot D10 Review

Posted 04/30/13 by admin and filed under:

Canon PowerShot D10 reviewThe Canon PowerShot line of digital cameras has long been known for providing its users with high quality user-friendly cameras.  Canon has recently joined their competitors by releasing an all-weather 12.1 megapixel waterproof digital camera.

This camera can provide you with quality photos as it features Canon's signature scratch prooflens, 3x optical zoom capabilities, 4x digital zoom capabilities, a variety of ISO setting, and numerous shutter speeds.  This camera can take your pics without flash in lightning storms or dark and is durable enough to perform in rain, snow, and underwater.

Since the Canon PowerShot D10 only features 12.1 megapixels, it will not take the high resolution pictures that some of the other waterproof cameras we reviewed are able to.  Particularly when underwater, we recommend that you take multiple pictures of the shot you are trying to capture.

While this may not be our top underwater pic, it does offer a variety of special features that you may not come across with all of its competitors.  The D10's settings can be programed to adjust topanorama mode, contrast correction, blink detection, and scene modes that include night exposure, kids and pets, long shutter, color accent, sunset mode and color swap.

If you are purchasing this camera for underwater use, we assume you are heading on a vacation. That being said, this camera is a bit bulky. It has rounded edges opposed to square, which can prevent the camera from scratching items it is packed next to.  The camera is just over 4” wide and 2” deep, making it the largest underwater camera we have reviewed. Its size does allow for a 2.5” LCD display screen. It is still stylish in its design, but it is not have the most modern of appearances.

We are impressed by the PowerShot's ability to perform in water that is up to 33 feet deep, it is shockproof from a full 4ft, and it functions it temperatures ranging from 14-104 degrees Fahrenheit.

The PowerShot comes with a rechargeable battery, software, wrist strap, and USB cables.  The battery can take at least 200 photos per charge.  You must remember to purchase a memory card or your photos will not be saved.

As always any Canon products comes with Canon's impressive customer support.  All of their cameras are protected by a full 1 year warranty for any parts and labor that is needed for the camera if it is used within its stated weather conditions.  To learn more product specifications and to read customer reviews go to Canon's website.  Here you can find the PowerShot D10 owners manuel and find the answers to its most commonly asked questions.

While this camera only features 12.1 megapixels and is a larger and bulker than most cameras, it makes up for what it lacks in durability, ease of use, and its vast variety of features.  We recommend this camera for children, teens, and accident users of all ages.

Fujifilm XP170 Compact Waterproof Digital Camera Review

Posted 04/29/13 by admin and filed under:

Fujifilm FinePix XP170 reviewWhen it comes to photography Fujifilm has long been recognized as a leader in the industry. With the Fujifilm Finepix XP170 waterproof camera however they have fallen quite short of their goal. Although this waterproof camera has a sporty look and looks fun to use, it does not deliver high quality images in some lighting conditions. It is not the quality you have come to expect from Fujifilm. It should also be noted that the Wi-Fi synching feature is less than reliable.

The durability of the FinePix XP170 is also in question when compared to other waterproof cameras. When tested, it was found that the Fujifilm FinePix, when placed underwater for more than an hour, was unable to survive without leaking. The camera although highly water resistant was found not to be waterproof. We recommend that you do not use this digital camera to take underwater pictures in your pool, lake, or ocean. The camera will most likely stand up to rain and snow, but you should try to avoid getting it too wet. After it gets wet we strongly suggest you dry it completely after use in wet conditions. If you want to use this camera underwater you will want to get an airtight camera case with a float strap.

The FinePix XP170 is packed with 14 megapixels, a quick shutter speed of 1/2000 seconds, and a wide-angle 5x optical zoom. It takes good photographs as most Fujifilm cameras do. Pictures taken with this camera underwater have geed white balance and are very clear. In low light however the camera does not perform well. It should be noted that in daylight the autofocus tends to be slow.

The compact sporty design of the Fujifilm FinePix XP170 camera fits easily into your pocket. It is more rugged than the average point and shoot camera. If you are looking for a particular color for you new camera, it better be either blue or orange the only colors available.

Through its built-in Wi-Fi capabilities, the Fujifilm FinePix XP170 has the ability to sync with your Apple or Android Smartphone, using its’ Wireless Image Transfer function. With the use of a downloaded app you have the ability to sync your pictures from the FinePix XP170 and share them from your phone. Although this can be very convenient, the direct sharing feature has some bugs. It is a bit difficult to set up the Wi-Fi, and loss of signal is often a problem. This requires you to stop and reset your Smartphone connection.
The camera comes with auto red-eye removal and face detection features. A nice feature is the taking of panoramic pictures. This is a really nice feature for those outdoor landscapes.

Of course Fujifilm’s customer service is excellent. If your FinePix XP170 camera breaks or malfunctions you can contact Fujifilm, because it comes with a one-year limited warranty. Contacting the company through either telephone or email with your questions about the product or warranty information is also available. Fujifilm provides FAQs and downloadable user guides for each specific product online, so product specifications and other information are always available for you to view.
The cameras from Fujifilm are usually a great value; however the FinePix XP170 seems to fall well short of expectations. With below average performance and image quality, the FinePix XP170 is a little disappointing. The durability of this waterproof camera is very low for our liking, and while the Wi-Fi features seem convenient, they fall short of the mark.

Nikon CoolPix AW100 Review

Posted 04/28/13 by admin and filed under:

Nikon CoolPix AW100 reviewThe Nikon CoolPix AW100 is a versatile camera which takes terrific digital photographs and is also waterproof.  This camera can photo tag in addition to tracking via GPS.  It can also take professional photographs where there isn't much light.

Many waterproof cameras do not perform well because they lack the ability to change settings when they are underwater.  Fortunately this isn't the case with the Nikon CoolPix AW100.  It has specific settings to take pictures underwater and makes color adjustments so the photograph is just as crisp as it is on land.  This camera is also very versatile and can be adjusted for panoramas, beach, portrait, night landscape, sunset, and so on.

It has a large LCD display which is 3 inches.  Buttons towards the right so it is simple to adjust settings at the same time you are taking pictures.  The resolution for the Nikon CoolPix AW100 is 16 megapixels and can adjust to just about any environmental condition.  The photographs will look sharp if you are in Minnesota in the middle of winter or Death Valley in the dead of summer.  Snapping pictures in low light isn't a problem because of the CMOS sensing technology.  There are six automatic optical zooming settings so make auto focusing a breeze.

The internal memory is not that hefty at only 83MB.  It is enough to hold a few photographs.  But to store thousands of photographs you need to purchase a SD card.  A good thing is sad cards are relatively inexpensive and you get a high quality 16GB SD card for $10 to $15 when they are on sale.

The camera buttons are very sensitive for this Nikon model, which some people like, while others find annoying.  The reason for these buttons is so it is easy to use if the picture taker is wearing heavy gloves on a job site or a ski vacation.  This feature cannot be adjusted so the buttons can be just as sensitive when you are using your bare hands.  So if you aren't paying attention you might mistakenly change your settings.

This Nikon underwater camera will automatically tag photographs with your location via GPS technology.   The fully integrated GPS embeds the city name when a picture is taken.  The GPS comes in handy when you are taking pictures in an unfamiliar place and you suddenly get lost.  This camera will save the day because it uses both Google Earth and a compass.

Most objective reviewers love the look of this Nikon camera. The Nikon CoolPix AW100 is available in 3 fashionable colors:  naval force, orange and black.  It has a rugged design which is perfect accompaniment when you are taking pictures outdoors for scuba diving, river rafting, hikes and biking.  It can withstand extreme heat or freezing and take photos underwater with a depth of 30 feet or less.

The Nikon CoolPix AW100 is powered by a rechargeable battery which will last for hours on a full charge.  Feedback from users suggests that they can take around 225 to 275 pictures when fully charged.  Beyond the charger, it's also delivered with an av cable, USB cable, wrist strap, CD and a manual.

This is a high quality and easy to use camera.  It is very small so can be taken anywhere but is also very rugged and withstand rough conditions.  This camera is an excellent choice if you are taking pictures of your family at home or on an outdoor hike.  The GPS functionality is an added bonus which will automatically tag your photos location and if you get lost can be a real lifesaver.  The Nikon CoolPix AW100 camera is a very versatile, waterproof camera which can be taken just about anywhere and take fantastic photographs.
